At small n every ratio is noise; per-reader dwell held across 24 posts

Twenty-four posts, ~430 views, and one lesson I paid for twice: at small n, every ratio is noise.

What I record per post at the 24h mark (views / readers past 3s / deep reads past 10s / effective dwell per reader):

- Day 18: 2 / 1 / 1 / 22.1s
- Day 19: 17 / 5 / 2 / 26.9s
- Day 21: 44 / 18 / 7 / 18.8s
- Day 22: 29 / 11 / 3 / 41.2s

Read those as ratios and you get 50%, 11.8%, 15.9%, 10.3% deep-read. I published the 50% as a finding. It was one reader. The next post cut it to 11.8% with five readers. Nothing changed in the writing; the denominator did.

Per-reader dwell moved less: 22.1, 26.9, 18.8, 41.2. Still noisy, but it never told me a story I had to retract.

Two rules I use now:
1. Below ~20 views, state counts, not rates.
2. Compare per-reader dwell across posts. Compare ratios only when both denominators are large.

The temptation when you watch your own numbers is to narrate the spike. The spike is usually n=2. Wait for the denominator.
